Description

THE NATURAL WONDERS OF RINCÓN DE LA VIEJA HAVE TWO WONDERFUL SECTOR TO CHOOSE

SECTOR A

A full day tour exploring the flora, fauna and natural wonders of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park. The day consists of a moderate 2-hour hike where you will see wildlife and volcanic activity, have a visit to Oropendola Waterfall where you can swim in the blue lagoon, eat a typical Costa Rican lunch, and then relax hot springs and enjoy a volcanic mud bath.

After pick up from your hotel, you will stop for coffee and/or breakfast, you will be driven (1-2 hours depending on pick up location) up to Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, the hike begins from the Pailas Sector.

Your guide, native to Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, will help to spot wildlife such as Toucans, Capuchin monkeys, Howler Monkeys, Turkeys, Coatis, and much more. You will stop to view the volcanic activity including bubbling mud pots, fumaroles, and a mini crater. After the hike, take a short walk off the beaten path to Oropendola Waterfall just outside of the park, where you can jump in and swim in the blue lagoon. Then head over to a ranch where you will eat a typical Costa Rican lunch. Towards the end of the day, you will stop by the hot springs of Rio Negro naturally heated by the Volcano where you can do a soothing volcanic mud bath.

Transportation, tour guide, park entrance fees, water, and lunch are included. Please bring comfortable walking shoes, comfortable clothes, bathing suit, towel, bug repellent, sunscreen, and change of clothes.

SECTOR B

Santa María sector

Single ticket works for Santa María and Las Pailas

The Santa María sector is zero overcrowded, everyone goes to Las Pailas because being all arranged is always recommended in the guides and accommodation. We recommend the sector in Las Pailas but it is also worth visiting the Santa María Sector.

One recommendation that we would make is that you have to arrive very early to the Santa María Sector and go directly to the end of the trail to be able to enjoy volcanic waters in a wild location without people. It is certainly the best in this sector. The rest has some waterfalls in which bathing is also allowed.

Natural pools in Rincon de la Vieja

We will star the path directly to the volcanic waters. The road is a straight line that ends in the natural pools and along the way there are the detours that lead to the other interests of the park.

When you get there , you would not believe it. A beautiful space surrounded by forest with no one around. You will put on the swimsuits right there (there are no dressing rooms or any type of facilities) The water according to the place is cold, hot or burning! The natural pools are fantastic.

Recommendations for bathing

It is recommended not to be in a long time because of the high concentration of minerals as it can irritate the skin. If you didn’t pay much attention… you can stay for more than an hour, and then go back in and out several times. Wonderful! In fact, the skin was very soft, like velvety.

Morpho waterfall

This is the largest waterfall. Both to go down and to move around the waterfall you have to help yourself with a cable and have some balance to avoid slipping.
In this waterfall the bath is allowed. Of course, in the Rincon de la Vieja it is very hot. The terrain is very arid, almost desert and the soil gives off a very high temperature. So a cool bath can really feel like it.
